Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (June 12, 2018) – Jason Sides posted a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend during the 40th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals, including a ninth-place outing on Saturday when the finale paid a whopping $40,000 to win.

“From the last three or four weeks I’m tickled just to get some races in without getting rained out,” he said. “I applaud Tod Quiring for putting on a race like that with a purse like that. It was a great purse for everybody. There needs to be more races like that.”

The opening night of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tripleheader was rained out on Thursday. Sides kicked off Friday’s action by qualifying second quickest in his group. A runner-up result in a heat race earned a spot into the dash. Sides placed fourth in the dash to line up on the outside of the second row for the A Main.

“It was hard to pass,” he said. “Therefore, qualifying was the key there. We were in a good position all night. We got going and I was getting to my line on the bottom. Another driver had gone to the top and he turned to come across. I had to check up and when I did that I got tight and went over the cushion. Brian Brown and David Gravel got by. That was about halfway through that race. I learned to lag back on restarts so you keep some air on the wing so you won’t get tight.”

Sides placed seventh during the first round.

He returned to the track on Saturday afternoon for the show that was postponed by rain on Thursday. Sides timed in fourth quickest in his group and placed third in a heat race to line up 11th for the main event.

“On the start it got the track really dirty,” he said. “When I was running the top either I was not committed to the curb or there was some rubber up there. About halfway through the race it was like a light switch and I went backwards. When I came in both rear tires were completely bald. You could see the strings coming out. The guys beside me had some tread left. Either I was in the rubber too early or I was grinding them off.”

Sides held on for a 19th-place result.

The event concluded that night with Sides winning a heat race and ending eighth in the dash to garner the eighth starting position for the 40-lap feature.

“We lost a spot on the start,” he said. “Then one guy jumped across and spun and almost hit me. I gained a spot there. On the slide jobs going into turn one you had to be careful not to open it too much and let someone get underneath you.”

Sides battled inside the top 10 throughout the race before ending ninth.

Last week’s action began on Tuesday at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Ill., for the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown. Sides qualified 24th overall, rallied from eighth to fifth in a heat race and capped the night with an 18th-place run.

“Fairbury was kind of different,” he said. “They had the track really wet and we weren’t very good. I’ve been too tight lately on the smaller tracks. I can’t get myself freed up enough to get around the track. By the time I do it’s too late.”

Sides will head to North Dakota for World of Outlaws shows on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks for the Northern Tour and Sunday at Nodak Speedway in Minot for the Magic City Showdown.
