Dodd Scores Career Win Number 2
Chris Dodd held off a hard charging Matt Vandervere in the closing laps of Saturday night’s 25 lap A main to pick up career win number 2.
A record high 36 Wisconsin wingLESS teams signed in to compete Saturday evening at the Wilmot Raceway. Allen Hafford set quick time over “the Siv” Jimmy Sivia and series point leader, Tim Cox. Nick Petska and Derek Crane would round out the top 5.
36 teams meant that series would run 4 heat races. Doug Schenck won heat number one over Allen Hafford. Heat two was won by Jimmy Sivia over Chris Dodd. The third heat race was won by defending champion Jordan Mattson ahead of Craig Campton. And the fourth and final heat race was claimed by 2017 Hoosier Tire Wilmot 410 sprintcar champion Matt Vandervere followed by Nick Petska.
The 20 car B main would see 6 cars transfer as for the first time, the A main field would be expanded from 20 cars to 22. Ryan Zielski would pick up the win over Chris Klemko and Scott Grissom. Nathan Crane beat Jordan Paulsen across the line for 4th, and Travis Mahoney would take the 6th and final transfer position.
Chris Dodd started on the pole of the feature, and used that to take the early lead. The 25 lap feature proved to be tough as multiple cautions sidelined drives throughout the field, including last weeks feature winner Jake Kouba and defending champion Jordan Mattson. Matt Vandervere started in the 7th position and quickly moved into 5, but would take the rest of the feature to continue moving forward. A late race caution would take away a pass by Vandervere causing Dodd to retake the lead on the restart, thus causing Matty V to have to settle for 2nd place. Tim Cox would come home in 3rd position in front of Nick Petska and Jimmy Sivia.
