Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 4, 2018) – Trey Starks scored his first feature triumph of the season and first ever at Port Royal Speedway last Saturday.

“I feel like we’ve been trying there for a long time,” he said. “To get our first win there is pretty special, especially considering at 2 in the afternoon we weren’t racing. We hadn’t planned on going. We had a car ready to go and the weather wasn’t looking great for Sunday at Bedford so we thought it might be the only chance to race last weekend. I’m glad we showed up.”

Starks won a heat race after starting on the pole in the Gobrecht Motorsports No. 44.

“We drew good for the heat race,” he said. “We pulled the No. 11 and that put us on the front row. I knew I had to take advantage of it. We had to run good and be in the top three to make the handicap for the feature. When you’re running against guys this good you have to take advantage of starting on the front row.”

The heat race win earned Starks a spot into the main event, which had the first few rows handicapped. He started on the outside of the front row.

“We started side by side with Jared Esh just like the heat race,” he said. “I knew he was going to make sure he was on the ball for the start of the feature. It’s not very often you start alongside the same guy twice in one night. I had to make sure I was focused and hit the start good. After that it was about hitting my marks and not making mistakes in traffic.

“I knew (Aaron) Reutzel would be coming pretty hard because he’s one of the fastest guys around right now. I saw him a couple of times in traffic. We had a pretty good race when he blew a tire. He tried to slide us a couple of times and I drove around him a couple of times and crossed him over once. I’m sure it was exciting for the fans. After the restart I had to get a good start and hit a good lap around the top to get away from Greg Hodnett because I knew he’d stick the bottom. I thought if I kept my head down and ran my line well we’d be all right. We had a great race car.”

Starks led the distance to garner the trip to Victory Lane.

“We’ve struggled a little this year and have hoped for better results,” he said. “This isn’t something that now that we’ve won everything will turn around. The reality is we have a few things to work on to get more consistent, but this gave everyone a boost of confidence.”

Starks will compete at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, N.Y., on Thursday before he tackles an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions tripleheader on Friday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., Saturday at Stateline Speedway in Jamestown, N.Y., and Sunday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y. This weekend will mark his first time competing in New York.
