Inside Line Promotions – ATTICA, Ohio (June 4, 2018) – Shane Call showed improvement in his second night of driving a sprint car as he transferred from the B Main to qualify for his first 305ci winged sprint car A Main last Friday night at Attica Raceway Park.

Call started sixth in the B Main and passed a car late in the race to grab the fifth-and-final transfer position into the main event. He started last in the 20-car field before finishing 17th.

“I thought it went pretty well,” Call said of his first career A Main start. “I started in the back and that was kind of where I wanted to start since it was my first A Main. I just kind of wanted to see what it was like. I mainly ran the bottom. I tried the top a few times, but it wasn’t working out for me. My car was pretty loose since we didn’t get to tighten it up much so I was sideways most of the time in the turns. I just kind of stayed in line and tried to watch and learn. When I started to get lapped, I tried to run where they were, but my car was just too loose.”

The night got off to an inauspicious start for Call, who started first and was running second in his heat race when his car slipped off the track, dropping him to the rear.

“I was running pretty strong in the heat race and was running on the cushion,” he said. “But I’m not used to running it yet. I was entering the turn on the cushion when I should have been entering about half a car length under it and making my way up there about halfway through the turn. I ended up going over the cushion and off of turn two and fell to the back.”

It was a good night of gaining experience for Call, who was able to compete in three races.

“When I first started racing everything seemed really fast and now it’s starting to become more second nature,” he said. “I definitely like running the A Main rather than the heat races. In the heats, you’re pretty much fast no matter where you run. But in the feature, if you can take away the good part of the track from someone you’re racing, you pretty much have the upper hand.”

Call is scheduled to return to Attica Raceway Park this Friday.
