Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (May 31, 2018) – When Kevin Mingus decided to put on the team ownership hat to go with the driving helmet he knew it would be a struggle to get the team rolling at first – and it has been.

Mingus and his family run team have had a steep learning curve, but things are starting to fall into place and Mingus is coming off his best weekend of racing during the 2018 season.

Mingus competed at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, last Friday and after struggling in his heat race, he came forward in the B Main to miss the feature by only one position.

“We are starting to figure this car out,” he said. “Coming from asphalt racing we have had a steep learning curve when it comes to dirt. Working last year with Kurt (Huber) helped a ton, but being on our own has been an eye-opener. After a couple of weeks and a couple of mechanical failures we’re starting to turn the corner.”

The team headed just down the road to Fremont Speedway on Saturday. A completely different format, including group qualifying, greeted Mingus. He posted the ninth quickest qualifying time and finished fifth in his heat race.

“We had the exact same setup on the car from the B Main at Attica for qualifying,” he said. “We guessed wrong in the heat and the track actually picked up speed and the frame kept bottoming out. We quickly reblocked the rear of the car to help that issue and we shot ourselves in the foot.

“I caught the cushion in turns three and four and the car lifted the front wheels and I got my thumb caught in the steering wheel, which dislocated it about six laps into the feature. From there I was just in survival mode, basically driving with one and half hands. But we got our best finish of the season. I know 16th is way off from what we want, but it’s a good building block for us.”

Mingus placed 16th and will return to action this weekend with races on Friday at Attica Raceway Park and Saturday at Fremont Speedway.
