Inside Line Promotions – WAYNESFIELD, Ohio (May 30, 2018) – Caleb Helms Racing is busy repairing two sprint cars after a rough weekend in Ohio.

The team was caught up in a pair of race-ending crashes that is forcing the crew to work hard in preparation for Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions shows this Friday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., and Sunday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa.

“I want to thank Andy Potter, Matt Snow and everyone for the hard work,” Helms said. “Last weekend was a long one and this week looks like a long one, but those things happen in racing.”

Last weekend began on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, where Helms set quick time during his group’s qualifying session. He then finished where he started – fourth – in a heat race to advance into an All Star dash. A fifth-place run lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

“We qualified really well at Attica and that set us up for success,” he said. “We started falling back and didn’t seem to have the car tight enough in the feature. We were running 13th or 14th and then started to make some ground up. I was going around a guy and had a really good run to where I got up beside him. He was coming up to the top, but I thought he could see me. He ran over my left front and broke my steering. I slid down the track and Dave Blaney had nowhere to go.”

The impact damaged both cars and Helms was credited with a 20th-place result.

Saturday’s All Star show rained out at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, and the team worked hard to assemble a backup car prior to Sunday’s inaugural Bob Hampshire Classic at Waynesfield Raceway Park, where Helms competed in both the All Stars and NRA Sprint Invaders divisions.

“The guys worked hard and we thrashed to get to race two cars ready,” he said. “We didn’t qualify great, but Jac (Haudenschild) missed his qualifying spot so that moved us to the pole. We had a good start on the first attempt, but I got stuck in a bad spot and lost a lot of ground on the second start. I was probably going to hang on for a transfer, but someone slid me pretty good and got into my left front. I had to check up for him to just hit the front.”

Helms placed seventh in the heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. Unfortunately, he was involved in a multi-car crash on the opening lap of the consolation race.

Helms fared better in his 360ci sprint car as he qualified ninth quickest and won an NRA Sprint Invaders heat race. He started the A Main on the inside of the third row and ended with an 11th-place result.

“I was trying to make the high side work,” he said. “We moved around and it didn’t get much better. We were hanging on at the end.”
