Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (May 30, 2018) – Tommy Bryant and the SawBlade.com backed Cooper Motorsports team got off to an inauspicious start last weekend, but were able to rebound with a sixth-place finish on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
The weekend didn’t start well as the team suffered a blown tire on the trailer on their way to RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, for Friday’s ASCS Gulf South Region race. Then Bryant got tangled up in a crash in the feature and was credited with a 15th-place finish.
“We had a fast car,” he said. “In the first lap I had moved from sixth to third in the feature. Then a car slid up into me and I got over the cushion and lost a few spots. I started coming back to the front. I slowed for someone who was spinning and got the front end run over by one car and slammed on the left side by another. It was just one of those racing deals.”
The team made repairs and headed to Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday for another ASCS Gulf South Region event.
“I missed the gear for the heat,” he said. “The track was really heavy and the car was lugging really bad. But I made the feature redraw and got the No. 8. It was a locked down, heavy track and hard to pass, but we managed to get a couple of spots.”
Bryant rallied to finish sixth.
“It was a mediocre weekend with all the incidents,” he said. “The good news is the car had really good speed.”
Bryant, who sits third in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings, said he and the Coopers are searching for additional sponsorship help.
“We’ve had to replace a lot of equipment this year from crashes and we could use some additional help,” he said.
