PENNGROVE, CA (7-24-10) – In any sport, hard work, determination and perseverance routinely pays off. Penngrove sprint car racer Alissa Geving is witnessing the truth of that philosophy as she nears the completion of the 2010 Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series. After a night of great success last weekend, Geving has officially advanced in the top five point standings of the competitive King of California Sprint Car Series.
"When I made the decision to run this series for the year my main goal was to get into the top five in the point standings," said Geving. "I've made it to that goal. Now we just have to give it our all in the next two races and hold on to it. I'd really like to thank my team and crew for all their hard work lately. Our recent race was one of our strongest runs and I have them to thank for it, the car was just great at Marysville."
For the first time in her racing career, Geving competed at the quarter-mile Marysville Raceway Park in Marysville, Calforinia last Saturday night. The event marked Geving's first ever start at the north state facility and it was the first time in nearly a decade that the Golden State Challenge Series competed at the track. After many improvements to the facility in recent years, a total of 24 cars showed up to an exciting night of 410 sprint car racing.
For Geving and her Chicko Motorsports Team, the excitement started early in the night. In qualifying she piloted her Tillett Tool, Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordiero Enterprises #3x Maxim Sprint Car to the fastest time of the night. Geving turned a 12:423 second lap, earning a new track record at Marysville Raceway Park for 410 cubic inch powered sprint cars.
"Going out there and getting fast time was awesome for the whole team," said Geving. "Then having it be a new track record made it even better. That momentum carried us through the whole night and hopefully will continue to do so when we get to Ocean Speedway next week."
In the first heat race of the night, Geving started in the fifth position and drove her way to second place behind Golden State Challenge Series point leader and longtime friendly rival Kyle Larson. The fast time position and heat race success secured Geving a position in the dash for the night where she drove from the seventh to the sixth position. Her finish placed her on the outside of the third throw for the 30-lap feature event.
With the waving of the green flag on Saturday night, pole sitter Jason Statler and Larson battled for the lead while Geving found her comfortable line and raced towards the top five positions with the likes of Even Suggs, Bobby McMahan and Brent Kaeding. When the checkered flag waved, Geving ended her night with an impressive 6th place finish on the night.
"We were hooked up really good all night long, this place is pretty fun to race on," said Geving. "Sometimes when you come to a place you haven't run before it takes sometime to find the right line and set up. Not tonight, we were dialed in as early as qualifying and good for the entire night."
After Saturday, Geving now sits fifth in standings and now has six top ten finishes in the Golden State Challenge Series . She has a pair of heat race victories and now one fast time award which is the new track record at Marysville Raceway Park.
Geving and her Chicko Motorsports Team will take a week off from competition this weekend and return to the Golden State Challenge Series next Saturday, August 7 at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville and then will wrap up the championship tour at Placerville Speedway on August 21.
