Inside Line Promotions – DUNDEE, N.Y. (May 24, 2018) – Joe Trenca had a fast race car last Friday at Outlaw Speedway, where he contended for the lead on the opening lap of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints main event.
“We were quick time in our group and won our heat race from fourth,” he said. “We started fourth in the main event and we got right to second in turns one and two.”
The Mucci Motorsports driver made a bid for the lead entering turn three when the leader moved up the track into the top groove.
“I was already committed,” Trenca said. “I followed him on the top and had no air on the wings and spun out.”
Trenca restarted at the back of the pack and rallied back into the top 10 before another incident with approximately 10 laps remaining.
“We restarted and got back up to ninth,” he said. “I went into turn one racing with a car. He drifted up and pushed me over the edge. The way the track is you go off the track into the pits right there so when I slid off I was already in the pits.”
The race continued without Trenca, who was credited with a 25th-place result.
“We were fast,” he said. “I was frustrated and disappointed, but we do have speed in the car and we’ve been consistently fast. At least we were racing for the lead when that first incident happened so that’s a bright spot.”
Last Saturday’s event at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y., rained out.
Trenca is scheduled to compete in a trio of events this weekend. He will race on Friday at Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, N.Y., with the Patriot Sprint Tour before venturing to Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., on Saturday and Sunday for the Bob Weikert Memorial.
