Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 15, 2018) – Despite little track time this season, Marshall Skinner earned an impressive top-five finish among a stout 38-car field with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com last Saturday at I-30 Speedway.

“I guess it’s not too shabby for a part-time racer in his second race of the year,” he said. “Like I told someone, if I could actually concentrate on driving a race car and working on it and arriving at the track being prepared, I might actually do pretty well.”

A second-place finish following a fourth-place starting position in his heat race placed Skinner fifth in points following the heat races. That garnered a spot into the feature redraw.

“I was able to take third after the second turn of the first lap and then move into second a few laps later,” he said. “We ran the fourth heat and after the fifth heat I was surprised when my wife, Kristy, told me I made the redraw.”

Skinner drew the No. 6 for the A Main, placing him on the outside of the third row for the 30-lap main event. His lack of track time this season may have kept him from a higher finish as he chose a conservative setup, which proved to be a bit slower.

“I was timid about tightening my car up for the race because I haven’t raced a lot this year,” he said. “A couple of cars got by me early because my car was too free and I was just hanging on, holding my own. I eventually got to fourth at one time, but Sammy (Swindell) and (Tim) Crawley had their cars way better than I had mine.”

Skinner placed fifth to give him a top five during each of his two starts this season.

The next racing action for Skinner will be this Saturday during the Hooker Hood Classic at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.

“I usually do pretty decent at Riverside, but I just haven’t fared too well at the Hooker Hood race,” he said. “I finished second there in 2014, but I haven’t finished many of them before or after that. But I’m feeling pretty good about it this year with the way things have gone for us so far.”
