Inside Line Promotions – HAUBSTADT, Ind. (May 14, 2018) – Big Game Motorsports posted a trio of top-10 finishes last weekend with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
The Muddy sponsored team ventured east after rain hampered plans in the Midwest. The action began on Friday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, where driver Kerry Madsen overcame a 21st-place qualifying result by charging from sixth to second place in a heat race. That earned a spot into the dash, in which a fourth-place result started Madsen on the outside of the second row for the A Main.
“The track slowed down a lot in qualifying so I wasn’t really worried since we went out so late,” he said. “We got a good start in the heat race and got into the dash, which was important.
“We weren’t running too bad (in the main event). I feel like we were top-five material. On the last restart after the red we had a hole in a tire. We were lucky to finish with only four pounds of air in the right rear.”
Madsen capped the night with a 10th-place finish.
He returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday and was fast out of the box. Madsen qualified second quickest overall before he won a heat race to advance into the dash. A fifth-place finish started him on the inside of the third row for the main event.
“We were around fifth or sixth the whole race trying to get a rhythm,” he said. “There was a restart with five laps to go and I messed up. Instead of gaining a spot or two being aggressive I lost a spot or two. It’s encouraging that we’re close and we’re right there. We have a lot of potential to unlock.”
Madsen placed seventh.
The Muddy backed team wrapped up the weekend on Sunday at Tri-State Speedway, where Madsen timed in fourth quickest, won a heat race and ended seventh in the dash to start the 40-lap A Main on the inside of the fourth row.
“We were in a really good position,” he said. “We were going forward. I misjudged the way a lapped car was going and ended up in a spin. It was our fault. We got back toward the top 10 and there was another big wreck up front. We were missing it and they called red. I got hit from behind as I was stopping and spun, but we didn’t get our position back.”
Madsen overcome both incidents as he rallied from the back of the pack to a 10th-place result.
“We were quick,” he said. “It was disappointing not to have a better result, but that’s short track racing sometimes.”
The team is scheduled to compete this Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., during the Great Lakes Shootout presented by Tweeter Contracting and Harvey’s Five Star Roofing and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
“I’m excited to go up there to Jackson and check it all out,” he said. “I’m confident it’s going to be a great track. There’s been a lot of effort put in there so it should be a great atmosphere. And we’re looking forward to Knoxville as well.”
