Macon, IL – For the second time in 2018, and the fourth to his POWRi career-credit, Logan Seavey came out on top in POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League competition. Seavey’s win rounds out POWRi’s Midwest Season Opener weekend, with tonight’s show at Macon Speedway.
Starting inside row two, Seavey had his work cut out for him as pole-sitter and early race leader Joe B. Miller put on a strong showing. Seavey fell in line in the second position while Tucker Klaasmeyer and Jason McDougal battled for the third position. McDougal took third on lap 12 and pushed past Seavey on lap 13, setting his sights on Miller.
Following a red on lap 15 for an upside down Austin Brown after contact with Holly Shelton, McDougal made his move for the lead as Miller’s car faded fast from a right rear tire going down. While McDougal looked strong out front for the second night out with Petry Motorsports, Seavey’s rhythm was getting stronger and his Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports mount closed on McDougal.
In the final laps Seavey took to throwing slide-jobs at McDougal while the duo worked lapped traffic, taking the lead on lap 29 and fending off a final-lap, final-corner challenge from McDougal, which resulted in McDougal spun around in turn four coming to the checkered after contact with a lapped car. Ryan Robinson found his way to second, another good point night for the current POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League point standings, while Jake Neuman took third, a 2018 best to date. Karter Sarff finished fourth, an overall career best with POWRi, while veteran Daniel Robinson rounded out the top five.
“I felt like we should have won last night and I wasn’t going to let that happen tonight,” said Logan Seavey. “It was all I could do to not run into people in the corners. My car was just really really good tonight on the curb and everybody seemed to keep getting tight. It was almost impossible to pass lappers since the curb’s so fast. I almost got wadded up racing for fourth at one point. Hat’s off to Keith and Pete and Al and everyone that works on these things. I’m just so blessed to drive these things.”
“Keith and Big Al put an awesome car together and it shows when we run up front,” stated Ryan Robinson. “I really just can’t thank Abreu Vineyards enough for supporting me this year. What that family does for racing is incredible.”
“We weren’t bad,” commented Jake Neuman. “A top three to these two cars, this team, that’s an accomplishment right there.”
