"Smith Shines in USAC Wingless Sprints of Oklahoma Show"
Danny Smith #5$ of Tulsa, Oklahoma bested the 30 car USAC Wingless Sprints Oklahoma field at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla. He took his Twister Chassis/Same Day Auto Repair Sprinter and set a torrid pace keeping the lead, even though several yellows during the A Main Event.
Michael Tyre II #11m ran a strong 2nd place, # 5 Cameron Hagin ran 3rd, #16s Steven Shebester ran 4th and #79 Tim Kent rounded out the top 5 of round #3 of the USAC/WSO 2018 Season.
Heat race winners were Ht. 1 - Danny Smith #5$, Ht. 2 Steven Shebester #16s, Ht. 3 - Cameron Hagin #5 and Ht..4 - Tim Kent #79.
B Main #1 Winner #13 Grant Wresche - B Main #2 Winner 9$ Kyle Clark.
While hauling it down Hwy. 3 on my way home I thought about the night. While walking around the pits I noticed all the different ways the teams prepare their wingless sprinters for the A Main and also noticed there were 21 -Champ Sprint Motors, 6 -305 Sprint Motors and 3 -WOW Sprint Motors as well.
"Impressive List"
-Lap times in heat races ranged from 13.90 – 14.10 seconds around the RDR Bullring and that is getting up on the pipe.
-Track prep was spot on; Cody Brewer and Company have established a great race track with 3 & 4 wide racing all night long.
-Good to see some good luck and a good night for the #18 Dillon Laden after a few not so good nights.
-First time runners with the USAC/WSO was #30 David Jones “The Rooster” in his 305 powered sprinter from Rockwall, Texas and Joey Baker from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in the Champ powered sprinter of Hughes Racing.
"Frustration List"
-Ht. 3 was tough for 1st time non wing driver Joey Baker as he caught the cushion in turn 1 & 2 and flipped the #34 sprinter, his night was done but he was okay.
-Ht. 3 also saw Justin “Turtle” Dunn flip his #19 sprinter on the backstretch and he was okay and able to return to run the B Main.
-Matt Moore #22 and Grady Chandler #5x sprinters just can't seem to buy any luck, both the likable and personable young men had DNF's as the bad luck continues for both.
-Mason Smith #31 WOW Motor sprinter missed the transfer spot by 1 position to make the A Main but I will say the #31 sprinter will have better nights ahead in wingless sprint car racing.
-Joe Wood Jr. #28 was running in top 5 until just after the half way point of the A Main when the #28 sprinter got pinched into the wall hard and bent the front of the chassis.
USAC Wingless Sprints Oklahoma would like to thank all 30 Sprint Teams for participating in Round #3 at Red Dirt Raceway.
Round #4 is next Friday May 18, 2018 – 8p.m. at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Oklahoma alongside of the ASCS Red River Series.
