Last Few Weeks of Racing for Matt Wasmund

Jackson, MN native, Matt Wasmund in the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis 4w has been doing a few things different for the 2010 season. The team purchased a 360 motor so they could race around home as well as some other 360 events in the area, but also kept the 410 for the regular Wasmund Racing schedule.
The World of Outlaws came to Matt’s home town of Jackson, MN on the first of May and the team decided since they were as close as they could get, they just as well start out the 2010 season with the Outlaws.

Qualifying 22nd against the cream of the crop, and finishing eighth in the heat race started out the first night of the year for the Jackson based team. With the eighth place finish in the heat race, Wasmund had to start in the middle of the pack for the B-Main in which he was able to finish inside the transfer at 6th to put him in the 25 lap Main Event. Wasmund started in the back of the pack on the outside of the 12th row and raced up to 17th to finish out the evening.

“For the first race of the year, we can’t ask for any better,” explains Wasmund. “The track was a one-line deal for the heat so it was hard to move forward, but the extra laps in the B certainly helped us for the main!”
It was two weeks before the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis hit the speedway again due to the Spencer, Ia IRA event being cancelled due to rain. On the 14th of May, Wasmund Racing headed to Rock Rapids for their 410 special and finished fourth in the heat race and nailing down a top ten finish of eighth in the 20 lap main event.

Jackson Speedway had their annual Spring Nationals the following weekend, and Matt decided it would be a good time to test out the new 360. The night didn’t go as planned as Matt started in the rear of the heat and finishing seventh with a seventh place finish in the B-Main, not making the transfer to the Main Event. “We had a decent car,” says Matt, “But, it was just one of those nights...we’ll take what we learned tonight and move on to the next!”

On Memorial Weekend, the Wasmund Team took the nights off of racing due to a long time crew member, Randy Grimmius, past away. Our hearts and prayers are off to the Grimmius family, he was a great friend.

This past weekend was a huge success for Matt and the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis as they went back to the famous ½ mile of Jackson Speedway with the 360 Sprint Car and won the heat followed by finishing inside the top five at fourth in the main event. “I couldn’t be happier with the team after tonight’s race,” exclaims Wasmund. “We really wanted to do well here and dedicate tonight to Randy (Grimmius). We made all the right decisions and pulled off the night with a needed top five finish!”
