Petaluma set to host fierce Civil War point battle Saturday

[b PETALUMA, CA (7-24-10)] - After a thrilling night of action at Ocean Speedway last Friday night the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series returns to action this Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway on the Sonoma-Marin County Fairgrounds. The lighting fast 3/8 mile oval in the heart of the Sonoma wine country is sure to produce high speed thrills as more than 30 of Northern California's top drivers are expected to compete in their third appearance of the year in the North Bay. The event marks the second of three straight weeks of competition for the Civil War winged warriors.

When it comes to high action thrills, the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Series will never let an avid open wheel race fan down and is sure to bring a new fan back to the track once they witness the spectacle. The latest version of California's premier series for 360 cubic inch powered winged sprint cars is producing a stellar chase for the coveted statewide championship title with the series point leader sitting just single digits ahead of his counterpart.

Entering Saturday's event, former four time Civil War Series Champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn leads the Civil War point standings. Forsberg won the first Civil War event this season at Petaluma Speedway and returns to the North Bay track with a point lead of just four points over Herman Klein of Sacramento, winner of the opening round of the Civil War Sprint Car Series opener at Placerville Speedway back in March.

Sitting third in the standings is Sean Becker of Antelope, the defending two time Civil War Champion. Becker is 10-points out of the lead as he chases a record making three time title. Mason Moore of Princeton is fourth in the standings heading into round eight while Justin Sanders, Stephen Allard, Bradley Terrell, Cody Lamar and Nicole Miller round out the top ten.

Following this week at Petaluma Speedway the Civil War Series remains busy in the month of July. On Saturday, July 31 the series returns to Placerville Speedway for the highly anticipated "Family Auto Center Tribute to Al Hinds $3000 to win event." This event starts early in the day as Family Auto Center in Shingle Springs hosts a giant race car show, fan bbq and live concert for the fans and teams.
