CG Motorsports. Glenpool, OK (May 2nd 2018) The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour debut at Paducah International Raceway was a success for Matt Covington and his A-Rock Materials/Triple X mount as he was able to find Victory Lane in his inaugural visit.

Covington started off the night on the pole of the 4th heat race. He was able to get the win, ending where he started. That gave him the 3rd place starting position for the A-feature. Covington was able to jump into 2nd early on, setting his sights on the leader, Mark Smith. Working into traffic on lap 6, Matt was able to rail the top and get a run on Smith, making the pass going into turn 3. Covington and Smith raced hard before Matt started perfecting his line on the high side and began putting distance on the field while maneuvering through lap traffic. The final caution of the feature waved on lap 17, resetting the field and closing the gap between Matt and Tony Stewart, who now moved into 2nd, putting Mark Smith in 3rd. With the green back out, Covington resumed his charge on the top and drove away again to cross the checkers, earning his first win of the 2018 season.

“I had a great time racing here and we had a really good car. This is my kind of track with the high banks and the wall all the way around. I like to get up there and lean on that wall and tonight we just had really good speed. We’ve had good speed all year. We knew if we just kept doing what we were doing, it would pay off and it is,” stated Covington after the race.

The team has been plagued with bad luck so far involving uncontrollable circumstances. He is really happy to have a good run with a good car. Covington is relieved to get the first win of the season out of the way and hopes to carry this speed and momentum into the coming months. “Another special part of tonight was having Josh Hegwood with us,” said Matt. “We’ve been friends and a part of his Chick Magnet Motorsports for about 5 years now, but this is the first time he was able to get in victory lane with us. And I’d like to give a shout out to Mike Davenport for all his hard work this year, and I really appreciate all my sponsors, friends and family. They all play a role in our successes and, without their support, following the National tour wouldn’t be possible. “

Matt Covington is looking forward to going to Pennsylvania this weekend to run on some historic tracks.
