Daniel Charges to First Top-10 Result in Sixth Career Sprint Car Race

Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (May 1, 2018) – Mason Daniel capped last weekend by earning his first career top-10 finish in a winged sprint car.

Daniel, a California native who relocated to Missouri during the offseason to pursue a career in racing, overcome a crash during his heat race on Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway to post a ninth-place result in the A Main.

“It was an exciting feeling,” he said. “We’ve been fast all year and have been getting better each time we’ve hit the track. I think everything has gone really well. The tracks are a lot different than we see in California and the driving style is a lot different.”

Daniel kicked off last weekend on Friday at Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, Ky., which hosted the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com for the first time. A fourth-place finish in a heat race relegated Daniel to the B Main, which he won after starting on the outside of the front row.

“We started 17th and were up to 11th in the main event when we had a caution with about six laps remaining,” he said. “My guys motioned me into the pits and it turns out we had a left rear tire going flat. We didn’t get two laps under caution to get it fixed since it was past halfway so we were unable to get back out before the race restarted.”

Daniel, who thought his first career top-10 finish might come on Friday, was credited with a 19th-place result.

Saturday’s action got off to a rocky start at Lake Ozark Speedway as Daniel was caught up in an opening-lap crash during his heat race.

“I started third and someone in front of me spun going into turn one,” he said. “I checked up to avoid the crash, but someone plowed into us from behind. We had to change nerf bars and a wing for the main event.”

Daniel’s DNF in the heat race lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the A Main.

“It was a big adjustment,” he said. “The only tracks I’ve raced on back here have been bigger tracks. It was my first time on that small of a track.

“I spent too much time on the bottom. I should have gone to the top sooner. Once I moved up we were real fast. We were able to pass cars on the topside and had the same lap times as the leader toward the end of the race. I was about a foot from eighth place as we came to the line.”

Daniel rallied from 14th to a ninth-place result, which marked his first-ever top 10 in only his sixth career sprint car race.

The team will return to action this Friday at either I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints or at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kan., with the ASCS Warrior Region and ASCS Red River Region before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region and ASCS Red River Region.
