Inside Line Promotions – PADUCAH, Ky. (May 1, 2018) – Alex Hill rallied to earn her first top-15 finish of the year with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com on Friday at Paducah International Raceway.
Hill struggled in her heat race before claiming the final transfer position in the B Main. She advanced from 22nd to finish 15th during her debut at the oval.
“The track was really tricky,” she said. “It was slick in turns one and two, which made the car loose, but it was the opposite in turns three and four, making the car tight. It was really hard to find a balance for the car with the two ends of the track being so different. But I was pleased with the progress we made from the beginning of the night to the end.”
Hill started on the pole in her heat race, but fell back early and eventually finished fifth.
“I had a hard time getting used to the track early in the heat,” she said. “I struggled in turns one and two where it was slick and I lost some positions there early in the race.”
Hill’s heat race finish lined her up in the sixth starting position in the B Main, which was the position she finished in to garner a transfer to the main event.
“The B Main went a little better,” she said. “I got a little more used to the track and started driving it better.”
Hill continued her improvement throughout the night’s main event.
“The car was better in the A Main and I was driving it better, too,” she said. “I got more comfortable with the car with the more laps I raced and I was able to pass a few cars.”
Hill will once again compete on a pair of tracks for the first time this weekend in Pennsylvania with the ASCS National Tour on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg and on Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove during the Battle of the Groves.
“I’ve watched races at both of those tracks before, but I’ve never raced at them,” she said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
