Darland Scores Big USAC Triumph at Bloomington

April 28, 2018, Bloomington, Indiana – Dave Darland grabbed the headlines with a record-setting victory in the USAC National Sprint Car main event at Bloomington Speedway, Friday night. In USAC’s first of three visits to Bloomington this year, Darland topped his 700th USAC sprint car start with his 60th victory, building on the records he already owns. Defending Green Earth Composting & Recycling RaceSaver Sprint Car series champion Ryan Tusing claimed his first win of the year, while Jason Hehman made it two in a row, in the Brandeis Machinery Super Stocks.

Darland, who races out of Lincoln, IN, took the green flag from outside the front row, and battled wheel-to-wheel with pole-sitter Chase Stockon for the first dozen laps before taking command. Although the top lane developed a very tricky cushion, Darland is the master of such conditions and pulled away to a nearly two-second advantage while Chris Windom worked –past Stockon for second position and Logan Seavey hustled from the seventh row to finish third.

With a pair of runner-up finishes in the first two races of the season, Santa Claus, Indiana’s Ryan Tusing knew a victory was imminent. Although, by rule, Tusing had to start his Kevin Huntley Excavating sprinter twelfth, he worked the top shelf smoothly, taking the lead from Luke Bland in traffic. Bland held onto second at the finish, ahead of John Paynter Jr., while Andy Bradley took fourth, with Kendall Ruble fifth. Winning the Brandeis Machinery RaceSaver Feature, Tusing collected a $150 bonus.

Jason Hehman outran Brad Cummings and Jack Frye to earn a $100 bonus from the new division sponsor, Brandeis Machinery. Hehman tops the super stock points with victories in both of the division’s events this year.

Next up at the Bloomington quarter-mile on Friday, May 4, is the JB Robinson Memorial, featuring the Summit American Modified Series, hosted by Bloomington’s AJ Bowlen Realtor with ReMax Acclaimed Properties UMP Modifieds; the Green Earth Recycling & Compost RaceSaver Sprint Cars; the Brandeis Machinery Super Stocks and Hornets.
