[b PENNGROVE, CA (7-14-10) –] This Saturday night Alissa Geving and her Chicko Motorsports Sprint Car Team will race on familiar territory as they compete close to home at the famed Antioch Speedway. This coming weekend, Geving hopes to carry the momentum of last week's top ten finish at Santa Maria Speedway in Nipomo, California.
"Last week was a good week for us at Santa Maria," said Geving. "We've been struggling to get back into the top ten lately with a series of mechanical issues and set up mistakes. To get back out there and into the top ten again felt really good. I hope I can carry my good luck into Antioch this week. I've raced there a lot in wingless cars and have quite a bit of experience so we should be sitting pretty good."
Geving has been working her way through the ranks of the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series. This traveling campaign for 410 cubic inch powered sprint cars features some of the best open wheel racing talent in California. For Geving, it's been a transition throughout the year as she follows through on her commitment to advance in her auto racing career.
"It's taking a lot of adjustment that’s for sure," said Geving. "We went from being up front just about every week to finding ourselves deep in the field. It's been an incredible learning experience. I'm enjoying racing with the series and being with some of the best drivers in the sport."
Last Saturday night Geving powered her Chicko Motorsports #3x Maxim to eighth place in qualifying at Santa Maria with a 12:312 second lap. She finished second in her heat race and raced within the top ten for the entire 30-lap feature event. In the closing laps, Geving raced hard with 8th place finished Bobby McMahan all the way to the finish line.
"I had a great race going with Bobby in those final laps. I loved it," said Geving. "I had a couple of opportunities where I may have been able to slip below him but I wasn't going to go in there and do something that could end up taking us both out of the race. It was good clean racing the whole night and I can't complain with a ninth place finish, we'll take it."
