Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (April 24, 2018) – Trey Starks picked up his first podium finish of the season on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway, where he competed in two classes.
“We definitely had a busy weekend and we had a busy night running two cars,” he said. “We had a better performance in the 360 class throughout the night.”
The Gobrecht Motorsports driver charged from fifth to win a URC heat race before he started the A Main on the inside of the second row.
“We ran a good heat race and drew a good starting spot for the A Main,” he said. “We got right to second and had Lucas Wolfe in our sights the entire race. We got a little closer in lapped traffic. In the last few laps Mark Smith came on strong. It was nice to be in the hunt the whole time though.”
Starks ended with a third-place finish.
The team struggled a bit in the 410 class that evening, finishing where they started in both heat races – third and fifth, respectively. Starks capped the main event with an 18th-place result.
“We just didn’t get moving in the main,” he said. “We were rolling a bit at the beginning, but lost some spots toward the end. The track was a bit different and tougher to run in the back. I tried some different lines. I just couldn’t get going. It seems like every time we’d gain a position or two a lap or two later we’d lose a spot.”
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Selinsgrove Speedway, where Starks qualified second quickest before he gained a position to place third in a heat race. He started the A Main on the outside of the fourth row.
“We qualified well, but we faded toward the end of the night,” he said. “I wish we could have been a little better in the A Main. We were struggling to find a rhythm. We were good on short runs and restarts, but not as good on the long runs.”
Starks battled for a top 10 throughout the race before he finished eighth, which was his fourth top 10 of the season.
The team is headed to Ohio this weekend for the $100,000-to-win Sprint Car World Championship at Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield on Friday and Saturday.
