Inside Line Promotions – ORRVILLE, Ohio (April 24, 2018) – Caleb Helms recorded a top-10 finish during his first race of the season in his home state last Friday.

Helms kicked off the Core & Main Spring Nationals at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, by qualifying fourth quickest in his group to catch the heat race inversion. That put him on the pole of a heat race, which he won to transfer into a dash.

“We got a little better from hot laps to qualifying,” he said. “We probably needed to get it a little tighter, but we were fourth quick in our group and that was good enough to put us on the front row in a heat race thankfully.”

Helms placed fourth in a dash to start the A Main on the outside of the fourth row.

“We were really good at the start,” he said. “We went from eighth to fifth in about a lap. Then a lap or two later a yellow came out and I tried to do the same thing on the restart I was doing before, but the track got dirty. As the race went on I backed up to 14th and started to try to make the top come in. It finally cleaned off and I was able to start making some speed.”

Helms had a strong finish to the race as his late-race charge garnered an eighth-place finish, which marked his fourth top 10 of the season at the fourth different track.

Cole Duncan subbed for Helms during Saturday’s All Star race at Wayne County Speedway, where he timed in sixth quickest in his group, placed sixth in a heat race, ended third in the B Main and advanced from 23rd to a 19th-place result in the main event.

“It’s tough getting in someone else’s stuff,” Helms said. “We want to thank Cole for driving our car so I could attend one of my sisters’ weddings.”

Helms will be back in the car this Friday and Saturday at Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio, during the $100,000-to-win Sprint Car World Championship. He was a winner at the track last year.
