Rob Lindsey Opens Up 2018 WSS Season With Win At CGS
By Ben Deatherage
Cottage Grove, Oregon- After much anticipation the 2018 Wingless Sprint Series would finally commence on Saturday, April 21st. The site would be Oregon’s Cottage Grove Speedway and the ¼-mile clay oval would attract sixteen entries from the states of Oregon, Washington, and California.

In the main event Sutherlin teenager Cooper Desbiens got on the loud pedal to take over the initial lead on the opening lap. Desbiens would remain there until being passed on the third circuit by Thurston’s Ricky Ashley. Desbiens and Ashley would put on a terrific battle and Desbiens would attempt to reclaim the lead only to pull off under caution due to mechanical problems.

The race would have several stoppages, four in total, and it appeared as if Ricky Ashley was on his way to victory lane. But Rob Lindsey, of Sherwood, would hunt him down after a lap twenty-two restart and obtained the top spot on lap twenty-four. From there Lindsey would cruise up front the rest of the way to win his eighth career WSS feature and his first at CGS with the current series.

Ricky Ashley was a respectable second followed by Salem’s Tim Alberding in third. Fourth and fifth went to Lindsay Barney, of Eagle Creek, and Aloha’s Brad Rhodes respectively. Kady Adelman, from Salem, was the Speedmart Inc. Hardcharger finishing seventh after starting eleventh.

Rob Lindsey was the Walker Racing Development Fast Time Award winner while Tim Alberding would be victorious in the Trophy Dash. Heat race winners were Lindsey and Ricky Ashley.

The Wingless Sprint Series heads next to Madras Speedway, in central Oregon, on Saturday, May 5th. It will be the first of several trips to the ¼-mile clay oval facility. For the latest news and information log on to wingless.nwextremeseries.com .
