Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (July 12, 2010) – The lightning fast winged Sprint Cars of the ASCS Southwest Region return to action at Tucson’s USA Raceway for the first time in several weeks this Saturday night.
Saturday’s card at USA Raceway marks the first ASCS Southwest event atop the Tucson clay oval since April 24 and the first Southwest action at all since an Aztec double on the opening weekend of June.
With the initial six ASCS Southwest events of the season in the books, reigning series champion Rick Ziehl of Las Cruces, NM, is out to the lead in the championship chase on the strength of a pair of wins.
Ziehl holds a 23-point advantage over Peoria shoe John Gaston, with Knoxville-by-way-of-Arizona racer Calvin Landis, New Mexico teen Joshua Hodges and Mesa’s J.T. Imperial rounding out the current top five in points.
The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Southwest points includes Kaylene Verville, Steve Stone, Koty McGullam, Joshua Williams and Bud Goodwin.
Saturday's ASCS Southwest Region action at USA Raceway is slated to go green at 6:45 p.m.
The 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval is located east of Tucson off I-10 Exit 268, then 1.6 mile south on Craycroft Road, which turns into Los Reales. For more information, contact the track at 520-574-8515.
