[b PLACERVILLE, CA (7-10-10)]– It's the richest regular weekly event in the history of Placerville Speedway, the annual Mark Forni Classic, next Saturday, July 17th. The event that is now just days away has been on the minds of many drivers and fans all season long as the roster dramatically formed for this prestigious invitational race that honors the late friend of racing with a $5000 bounty.

After numerous requests by race teams over the last two years, a new twist to the Forni Classic was added in 2010. In order to be eligible to compete in this grand event a driver must have entered a minimum of six Placerville Speedway point races or Placerville Speedway Civil War events prior to the event. The eligibility format was formed in an effort to create a race where the local team that supports it's local venue is rewarded for their efforts. Not only will this race pay a hefty amount to the winner, the money will go all the way down the line in the feature event with each driver earning $225 to start.

After Saturday's most recent point race, 28 drivers have met the requirements to take the green flag on July 17th by competing in six or more of the combined races. A total of two drivers are just one race away from eligibility.

Topping the list of eligible drivers is two time Forni Classic winner Sean Becker of Antelope. In the past Becker and his Scott Miller team have made limited appearances at Placerville with the exception of Civil War events during the year. This season with the new eligibility requirement, Becker has raced in four Placerville Speedway Red Hawk Championship events and two Civil War events here to make the cut.

Drivers that are currently qualified along with Becker include the following; Andy Forsberg; Mike Henry; Justin Johnson; Colby Wiesz; Mason Moore; Scott Russell; CJ Humphreys; Shane Golobic; Jimmy Trulli; Jeremy Phillips; Billy Strange Jr.; Nicole Miller; James Sweeney; Trevor Canales; Chad Compton; Charlie Cagle; Josh Bates; Craig Swim; Steven Tiner; Stephen Allard, Troy Machado and Cody Lamar, David Silveria, Herman Klein and Jimmy Steward, Billy Butler and Scott Hall.

In addition to the added funds to the winged sprint car division, both the Limited Late Models and Pure Stock classes will also be racing for increased amounts. In each of these divisions the winner will pick up a $250 bonus. Overall the Late Model winner will earn $750. while the Pure Stock winner will take home $550 for the night.

"This is our richest night of racing in El Dorado County and it honors a man that played a great role in the long term future of this facility. Mark would do anything to help a local racer," said Bill Sullivan, Communications Director for Handy Racing Promotions. "The unique eligibility requirement this year is something the majority of the teams asked for over the years and we listened. The result will be 28 of our most talented drivers racing for an incredible night of racing. When this type of money is on the line the caliber of competition goes to a whole new level. This is a race Mark would love for sure."

Action will start on Saturday night with the grandstands opening at 5 p.m. and qualifying at 6:30. The evening will feature a full format for all three divisions. Adult tickets will be $12, juniors and seniors $10, Children $5 and under six will be admitted for free.
