Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (April 11, 2018) – Alex Hill’s weekend in Texas came to a close early following a hard crash at the start of her heat race Saturday night during the Tony Stewart Presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals at Texas Motor Speedway.

Hill was sore but uninjured following an end-over-end flip down the frontstretch at the beginning of her Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com heat race.

“I moved lower to pass the car in front of me, but I came up on the infield tire so I had to move higher to avoid it,” she said. “When I did that I clipped the left rear tire of the car next to me with my right rear and flipped. I was definitely sore after that one. My neck is still sore and I have a huge bruise on my leg. For some reason, I couldn’t walk on my leg right after the crash, but it’s all right now.

“That was disappointing. I was really optimistic just before the start of the race. That was the first time this year that we didn’t make the feature. It was a bad night overall for our team as Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) crashed while leading the feature.”

Hill’s weekend began on Friday with a third-place starting position in her heat race.

“I started third and was in that position and running well after a few laps when suddenly my car went straight toward the wall in turn one,” she said. “By the time I saved it, a couple of cars passed me and I fell back to fifth, which is where I finished.”

Her heat race finish relegated her to a B Main, which she started fourth.

“The car was really good and fast in the B Main,” she said. “I was up to second when the same thing that happened in the heat happened again in turn one. I still don’t know what caused it. The same thing happened to a couple of other guys, too. I only lost one spot that time and was able to catch the first two cars, but ran out of laps to pass them.”

Hill earned a transfer into the A Main as the 21st starter.

“The track was really tacky in the corners,” she said. “We tried loosening the car up, but it still pushed in the turns. I was doing all right, but once we got lapped by three or four cars I figured it was best for me to pull in.”

Hill, who was credited with a 20th-place finish, will take this weekend off from racing before returning to the track April 20 at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio, and April 21 at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, with the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders.
