Inside Line Promotions – QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (April 10, 2018) – Joshua Shipley took advantage of the ASCS Southwest Region’s off-weekend as he competed with the San Tan Ford Desert Sprint Car Series last Saturday at Arizona Speedway, where he earned a third-place finish during the non-wing A Main.

“We had a really good weekend and a fast car,” he said. “I drew the No. 71 pill, which put us in the back (of a heat race), but I felt like it wasn’t a bad thing.”

Shipley was confident in his car and felt that he could make up a lot of ground in his heat race. He started sixth and moved forward to score a runner-up result.

“We went from sixth place to second in the heat race,” he said. “I felt like my equipment was in order and the motor was running really well.”

Between his second-place finish and the passing points he earned with it, Shipley was ranked as the second-highest qualifier of the night – only beat by his brother, Kyle, for the top-points spot.

“That was a pretty cool moment,” Joshua Shipley said. “The top six in passing points get inverted so I started fifth in the feature.”

Shipley quickly went from fifth to second on the opening lap. A red flag came out on Lap 2 just as he was starting to catch the leader.

“The leader changed his line and got really fast,” Shipley said. “We were a little too aggressive with the setup and my car just kept getting tighter and tighter.”

With a large cushion on the track and a tight car, Shipley struggled to run the top lane effectively. He bicycled a couple of times and his brother was able to pass him for second.

“We brought it home third out of 26 cars, which is the biggest field we’ve seen all year, so we were pretty satisfied,” Joshua Shipley said. “It was a lot of fun and I think it will help me to stay fresh for the next ASCS Southwest Region race.”

Shipley will return to action on April 21 at Arizona Speedway with the ASCS Southwest Region. He ranks second in the championship standings.
