Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (April 4, 2018) – Derek Hagar was on the right end of a phone call on Tuesday morning when he was offered an opportunity to race a marquee event.
Hagar will pilot Bruce Griffith’s No. 17 this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, during the Tony Stewart Presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.
“It’s a nice opportunity to go to Texas Motor Speedway and be able to race,” Hagar said. “I probably wouldn’t have the opportunity to go there if I didn’t get to drive for somebody. They called me yesterday morning and we confirmed everything last night.”
This weekend will mark Hagar’s first time driving for Griffith and it will be his debut at the track.
“The goal is to just go out there and give them the best results that we can,” he said. “It’d be nice to go out there and win, but there will be a lot of good competition there. We need to take it lap by lap and see how things shake out for us.”
It will also be the third different sprint car Hagar has driven this season.
“Whenever you get into nice equipment you transition pretty quickly,” he said. “I know these guys have good equipment and maintenance it very well. That takes a burden off me so I can prepare to do what I need to do on the race track.”
