Inside Line Promotions – PARK CITY, Kan. (April 2, 2018) – Brian Brown earned his first podium finish of the season last Friday at 81 Speedway during the opening night of the 8th annual Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout.

“It started off really good for us,” he said. “They had a draw to line up the first heat races and then another draw to reset the numbers for the second set of heats. We had good draws all weekend.”

Brown won his first heat race after starting on the outside of the front row and he claimed his second heat race from the pole position. He ranked sixth out of nearly 50 competitors and lined up on the outside of the third row for the NCRA Series main event.

“We were able to go from sixth to third on the first lap, but it laid rubber pretty quick,” he said. “We had a really good car to that point and we might have had something for the first two guys if it hadn’t laid rubber.”

Brown held on to third place for the remainder of the race. It marked his best result this season.

He returned to the oval on Saturday for the $13,000-to-win finale.

“We were a little tight in hot laps and were a little gun shy of tightening the car up more for the heat race,” he said. “We left our car too free. Blake Hahn and Bill Balog were too good and when you’re starting on the front row in a heat race during a $13,000-to-win event you can’t go backwards.”

Brown finished third after starting second in a heat race. That relegated him to a B Main, which he won to lock into the 18th starting position for the A Main.

“I got a pretty good start and got up to 12th or 13th,” he said. “Then I got bored of riding around and tried to make something happen getting around a guy. I got out of the rubber and lost a bunch of ground. I felt like another 15 laps on our motor on a track with no passing wasn’t worth it so we pulled in early.

“Overall it was a fun weekend. The results weren’t what we wanted, but we showed some car speed. It was great to get back in a 360 for the first time in a while and be fast.”

Brown, who was credited with a 21st-place finish, will return to action this Saturday at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., during the Arizona Desert Shootout with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. He set the track record during qualifying in 2016 and placed a career-best third at the oval last year.

“FVP is bringing some customers and employees so we’re looking forward to that,” he said. “We were on the podium last year and finished 10th in 2016 so we’ve had some success there.”
