Inside Line Promotions – CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (April 2, 2018) – Greg Wilson took advantage of a last-minute opportunity to pilot a 360ci winged sprint car last Saturday at Central Arizona Speedway.

Wilson climbed into J.T. Imperial’s sprint car for the ASCS Southwest Region event, which began with a heat race win that earned a spot into the feature redraw. Wilson pulled the second-highest number – seven – during the random redraw to start the A Main on the inside of the fourth row.

“More than anything it was an opportunity to get in something completely different than what I have,” he said. “We needed to do that so I got in something else to see if it’d feel different. We didn’t have the pressure and it gave me a chance to just be a driver. If nothing else it was a confidence booster.

“I want to thank J.T., Michael, Ray, Keith and Sherry for the opportunity to drive the Mazatzal Dirt Works car.”

Wilson maneuvered from seventh to third place in the A Main to record his first podium finish of the season.

“I felt like at the end of the race we had the best car,” he said. “I hadn’t felt that good in a while. It took me a while to drive a car that was in the race track. Once I started running how I know how to run we started passing race cars. We had a lot of fun. It was the most fun I’ve had in quite a while.”

The night capped a weekend that began the previous day with a test session at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz.

“We haven’t been able to get the right rear stuck in the race track,” he said. “Our car wants to spin out. The best thing I learned on Saturday was when I ran into turn one on the first lap I was driving it in straight like I have to drive our car. It about drove off the end because it was in the track. Whatever we have to do to make our car do that is what we’re focused on.

“The biggest thing is what I felt in their race car and what I’ve been feeling in mine are opposite. Right now we’re going through everything to see if we have something wrong and what we can change to get it to react the right way.”

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Alloy Wheels backed team will compete at Arizona Speedway this Saturday during the Arizona Desert Shootout with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. He’s improved his feature finish at the oval during each of his two races there.

“It’s always racy,” he said. “It’s a neat place that reminds me of the old Limaland at home. I know last year and the year before it was pretty darn racy so it’s always exciting going to those type of tracks.”
