Lonnie Wheatley, AZTEC, N.M. (July 2, 2010) – A new venue for the American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region netted a familiar result with reigning series champion Charles Davis, Jr., topping Friday night’s 30-lap feature event at Aztec Speedway.
Davis took advantage of his pole starting position aboard the Roush Yates Ford-powered Massey Motorsports No. 50, racing to his fifth series win of the year in the opening night of the two-night wingless ASCS Canyon debut at Aztec.
Davis was chased to the stripe by tenth-starter R.J. Johnson, with Johnny Herrera, Rick Ziehl and Jeremy Sherman rounding out the top five.
Ronnie Clark was sixth, with Mike Martin, Rickey Hood, Andrew Reinbold and Bob Ream, Jr., completing the top ten.
Bruce St. James, Ziehl and Davis topped Friday night’s heat race action.
