Helms Rallies to Capture Career-Best Result at Lincoln Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (March 21, 2018) – Caleb Helms is gaining confidence and building momentum week by week.

Helms posted his career-best finish at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., two weeks ago and he accomplished the same feat last Saturday at Lincoln Speedway by overcoming a crash to net a top-10 result.

“We had a good spot in the heat, but we had a bad start and then lost a spot on the last lap,” he said. “That started us further back in the main event than we wanted.”

Helms placed fourth in a heat race and lined up on the inside of the eighth row for the A Main.

“We made some adjustments and were really good,” he said. “We started to move forward and we were getting better as the race went. I was close to a top 10 when a car wrecked in front of us, which caused a pileup we couldn’t avoid.”

The front end was broken on the Helms sprint car and the race resumed before he could get it fixed. However, there was a red flag on the restart and that gave his team enough time to make the repair.

“We changed an axle thanks to some help from several people,” he said. “I think we restarted 14th or 15th with six laps to go. We passed some cars and drove into the top 10. I think we were really clicking off some quick laps at the end.”

Helms charged in the closing laps to score a 10th-place finish – his best ever at the oval.

“I feel good,” he said. “It’s really important to run well at these tracks, especially to give us a good notebook and confidence when we come back for All Star shows.”

Weather permitting, Helms plans to compete this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa.
