26 Promotions – Queen Creek, AZ – (March 21, 2018) – After scoring the opening round win back in February, RJ Johnson headed to Arizona Speedway on Saturday looking to go two for two with the USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series this season.
Johnson’s night kicked off with heat race action where he’d start fifth. Johnson quickly moved up to third and ran there for most of the race until a car at the tail of the field got into the wall in front of the leader coming to the checkers out of turn four, causing the leader to check up and allowing Johnson to get by him for second.
Johnson tallied the second most passing points during the heats, lining him up fifth for the 30-lap feature.
“I was up to second as we completed the first lap,” explained Johnson. “I stalked Charles (Davis Jr.) for about nine-laps before I was able to sneak by on the bottom in turn one and two and then a red came out. I had to go back to second on the restart and Charles went to the bottom to protect. I was able to get a good run and get by him on the top.”
Johnson went unchallenged from there, leading the remaining 21-laps taking the checkered flags with over a two second lead for his second win of the year.
Johnson returns to USAC Southwest Series action on March 31st at Canyon Speedway Park.
RJ Johnson would like to thank Martin Auto Museum, AME Electric, BG Chemicals, Pecon Builders, Sherman Race Cars, Bell Helmets, Kaeding Performance, Smokewagon Express, MBI, Fatheadz Eyewear, Butler Built Seats, Sunoco Race Fuels, and Rod End Supply for their continued support.
