Bloomington Speedway – Keeping You In The Loop

2018 News and Updates

Opening Night of the 2018 season will be here before we know it. The change to Daylight Savings Time always means that hot laps are coming soon. We will have an open practice night on April 6th, with free admission to the main grandstand. All divisions and all cars that will race at Bloomington this year are welcome to attend. There will be a $20 charge for pit admission to cover the operating cost for the night, and we will have limited concessions for sale. Then Opening Night is just a week later, Friday April 13th.

Tom White & Company is the new sponsor for the 410 non-wing sprint car division for the season. Bloomington’s Tom White has been a life-long fan at the Speedway, and is now supporting the track through his successful real estate business, as well as sponsoring several cars. This sponsorship will include exclusive association of White’s company with the non-wing sprint cars in the track’s printed materials and social media, including announcements and race results.

An updated season schedule is being posted and it is good to point out a couple of highlights. The IU Surplus Doubler returns to the schedule on July 13th. The non-wing sprint cars, RaceSaver sprint cars and super stocks will all compete for double points that evening. IU Surplus is another long-time supporter of the Speedway and is an outstanding source for a broad range of items, including used computer and office equipment and a variety of furniture.

The Speedway is looking forward to hosting many racing fans on July 20th with the traditional South Central Indiana Building Trades Night. This event has been organized by the South Central Labor Union Council and their unions who are always so integral to Indiana’s growth and businesses for many years.

We are really excited to have added the AVSCA vintage sprint cars on the schedule for two nights, June 15th and then the Bob Kinser Memorial on August 17th. Fans will enjoy seeing a number of racing machines from yesteryear on the track again, in heat races and a main event, and will also have the opportunity to get up close with the cars and drivers.

With several staff changes in the works, I would like to introduce Amanda Sparks as a new addition to our scoring team and also as the Communications Manager for the track. Amanda brings many years of experience working at other race tracks and is familiar to many fans already. She will be assisting communications through various mediums, both with fans and staff.

I look forward to your comments. The best way to contact the track is by email at bloomingtonspeed@bluemarble.net, phone 812-824-7400, or our mailing address is 5185 S. Fairfax Rd., Bloomington, 47401.

Many thanks to Chris Pederson for the photos.
