26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (February 27, 2018) – 2017 Power 600 Series Champion, Jarrett Martin, kicked off his 2018 season on Saturday night at Canyon Speedway Park.
“I had high hopes going into Saturday’s race,” said Martin. “I had been working on changing some things with the setup to get a little more out of the car late in the night.”
Starting and finishing third in his heat, Martin knew he was going to be in the middle of the pack to start the 25-lap feature.
“All week I had been thinking about how critical it is to start in the front two rows if you want a chance to win, so I knew I had to move forward in the heat,” he said. “There were a couple of chances for me to push the issue and take second, but I didn’t capitalize. That one spot was worth five or six in the feature with the invert.”
Starting ninth, Martin worked his way up to fifth by the halfway point of the race. From there, he’d assume the fourth position after a wreck involving the third-place car and race for third in the closing laps but would take the checkered flag in fourth. Martin was later awarded third after another car was disqualified.
“We were really good at the end, I think if we could have started in the top three we would have had a decent shot at the win, it just took me too long to get to the front,” Martin explained. “Overall we got a good feel for the car, and it was a solid night.”
Next up for Martin is the March Meltdown at Canyon Speedway Park where Martin will make his Sprint Car debut with the ASCS Southwest Region in the Steve Stone Racing, J&J Auto Racing number 57.
“I’m really looking forward to getting started in the Sprint Car next week and having a fun year with the Micro,” he said.
