Shake Up Jacob – Seat Time

NEWTON (June 22, 2010) – The learning curve continues as the Ossenfort Racing team makes their mark in the 2010 season. This weekend was all about seat time for Jacob and his Knology #99J 410. The team made their way to River Cities Speedway, in Grand Forks , North Dakota , for the two day World of Outlaw Series show. Rain cancelled activities for Friday evening but the weather stayed away Saturday and Sunday, allowing them to get the event in.
Saturday was full of nerves for the seventeen year old Jacob Ossenfort. “It was our first time with the Outlaws and my adrenaline was high.” Jacob said of his first night with the World of Outlaw Series. The #99J, hit the track for hot laps and encountered a slower car running alongside the bottom. “I went high to pass him. This track is different. You can fall right off of track and find a wall on the other side. Once I got up there I knew it wasn’t good.” The #99J was done for the night; at least on the track. The Ossenfort Racing team worked hard for the rest of night to get the Don Ott 410 engine into the spare car and ready for Sunday.
Sunday night was a much better night for the Ossenfort’s. “I was a little nervous in hot laps and the groove was high and hard to find, especially since the high line and I had different plans the night before.” Jacob said. After a successful round of hot laps Jacob was ready to get some racing in. The heat race took the top five finishers as A-Main qualifiers, so the goal was to make top 5. The Knology #99J started sixth in his heat and remained in steady competition throughout the race, holding a well deserved sixth place finish.
The sixth place finish put Jacob in the fourth place starting position for the B-Main event. The track peeled away one lap at a time, making it hard for anyone to find a groove. Jacob handled this race with care, knowing that as long as he finished the race, they were in a much better place than the evening before. “At this point it was all about seat time. The track was extremely hard slick and there was a 3’ ft. cushion, not my favorite kind of track.” Jacob drove his #99J to a justifiable eighth place finish.
Seat time, is learning time. Jacob and the Ossenfort Racing team have had a few nights of learning the hard way and few more nights of note taking, but as the summer wears on each weekend gets a little better. “It’s all about the experience. The more you know about the car and how to handle the track, the better off you’ll be. This was valuable seat time and although it wasn’t exactly the way we pictured it, we learned how to make the run better for next time.” Jacob had to say of his weekend.
After making some changes in Grand Forks , over the past weekend it’s hard to say where you’ll find Jacob next weekend, but it’s quite possible you’ll see him at I-90 Speedway in Hartford , South Dakota , running with the American Sprint Car Series, Midwest . We’ll keep you updated, so stayed tuned!
