T.J. Buffenbarger, LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (June 19, 2010) – Darren Long completed the first weekend sweep of his career Saturday night by winning the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature at I-96 Speedway. Long followed his Friday win at Cherry Raceway by once again starting on the pole and leading every lap at I-96 in the J.G. Motorsports Gaerte chassis and engine.
“It feels great to finally pull off winning two in the same weekend,” said Long in victory lane. “I just tried to drive the car a little easier because even in the rubber I could kick the car sideways.”
Long and ASCS SOD point leader Ryan Grubaugh started on the front row for the 25-lap feature. Long took the lead, but all eyes were on Dustin Daggett, who took a challenge from Renegade Racing Fuels to start dead last the feature to collect a $500 bonus if he could win from the tail.
Daggett passed 10 cars on the first lap and was up to eighth position when Robert Huisken spun between turns one and two and Daggett had nowhere to go. Both cars crashed off the end of the track with Daggett taking a wild end over end flip. Both drivers were uninjured.
After the restart Long was able to pull away from Grubaugh. By lap eight the racing surface had laid down rubber in the lower groove. Long found this quickly and maneuvered through lapped traffic and was never seriously challenged. Ben Rutan eventually moved into the runner up spot while Gregg Dalman, Dain Naida, and Grubaugh rounded out the top five.
Daggett, Gary Fast, and Brett Mann won heat race events, Long won the fast car dash, and Jason Blonde won the B-Main event.
