Now for some thoughts from our good friend J.D. Porter and the Hog Wagon & his 2014 WOW Season Thoughts and Year in Review
With the first ever Season in the books for the Wingless Oklahoma Warriors (WOW) Series, thought I would give some post season info and thoughts.
26 Cars competed at 1 time or another with the Series at 5 different facilities in 2014.
Drivers consisted of the very new and first timers in a full size sprint to longtime veterans in the sport.
5 different A main winners and some variety for the series as newcomer Shelby Byrd picked up an A Main win in just his 4th start and then the veterans took over the remainder of the wins with David McDuffie 1 win, Gil White 1 win, Kyle Cobb 3 wins, and Koby Barksdale with 5 wins which propelled him along with consistent finishes to a 2014 WOW Non Wing Championship.
Rookie of the Year Honors went to Casey Jones in the 52J Sprinter.
The new series had it’s up’s and down’s and just like any new series went through growing pains but it gave race fans a different alternative with no wing up top an goes along with that ol school approach which brings back days gone by when the wing was only on an Airplane and the Open wheel Car was Bouncin around & Rut’s & Gut’s and don’t lift till ya see the Checks!!!.
Some over the past year have said this deal would die in a year, seems more cars being built from what I have seen/heard and talked to.
Some also say it’s a beginner’s class , REALLY!!!!, just wondering how you can have a beginner’s class in today’s Sprint Car Racing??, just shows a lack of knowledge of racing on their part. This is a Series that if ya build a Car/Motor and it meets all legality of the rules posted then bring it and race it with the series, I don’t care if your Brady Bacon, Bryan Clauson, Dave Darland, Tracey Hines, Koby Barksdale, Mike Ramsey, Ricky Crawford, Kevin Barksdale or whomever?? Just follow the rules given and show up and race.
Some also have that pay syndrome phobia about the class, well I can tell ya in about any series that ya race with, you’ll be lucky to pay for your trip to and from the track and general expenses to race that night and ALL else ,,,,,, well just open up that wallet and or check book is all I will say. So ya might as well enjoy what your doing.
Really proud to have been a part of this Non Wing Series in it’s first year, was not a stellar year for the Hog Wagon by no means but we got a win and take what else happened and ya just move on, enjoyed the first WOW Banquet back in Dec. as all had a good time as Trophies, Jackets and Products were handed out.
Congrats again to Koby Barksdale on the first ever 2014 WOW Championship and to Casey Jones on his RoY accomplishment and to all who helped get and keep this deal going:, The WOW Board Members, Annette Leeskamp, Chris Smith, Dennis Crow for all their help throughout 2014 and to the Sponsors as well.
