Inside Line Promotions – CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (Feb. 19, 2018) – Joshua Shipley brushed off the offseason dust by competing last Saturday with the NAPA Non-Wing Sprint Cars at Central Arizona Speedway.

After winning a heat race to open the night and facing some adversity early in the A Main, Shipley charged from the rear of the field to finish fourth.

“We had a field of 20 cars, which is pretty good for that series,” he said. “I started on the outside front row of the heat race and walked away with it.”

While the heat race win lined him up on the outside of the second row in the A Main, Shipley quickly made his way to lead by turn one.

“It was rough in turns one and two so I kind of babied it to get through there smoothly,” he said. “I went low and second place went around me on the top to take the lead on the back straightaway.”

After almost regaining the lead, a caution came out on Lap 2 and gave Shipley some trouble.

“I started second on the restart, but I made a mistake that bounced me off the track,” he said. “I brought out the yellow so I had to go to the tail.”

Shipley was methodical as he was able to pick off cars and work his way up to fourth place before the checkered flag was waved.

“I definitely can’t complain,” he said. “I felt really good, the car was great and that race gave me a lot of confidence heading into the ASCS Southwest Region season in a couple of weeks.”

Shipley will be rejoining the No. 01 Verville Motorsports team for the 2018 season to compete for the championship. The action begins March 3 at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz.

“We rounded off the 2017 season with good finishes and we’re feeling excited for this year,” Shipley said. “A lot of the sponsors and partners that were with us last season are sticking around for this year, which is awesome. We couldn’t do it without them and we appreciate their support.”
