[b PLACERVILLE, CA] – Each season when the annual break for the El Dorado County Fair is over, it means one thing at Placerville Speedway; it's time to get down to business for the last half of the Red Hawk Casino Championship Series presented by Hoosier Tires, Coors Light, Riebes Auto Parts and Pepsi Cola.
This Saturday night, four divisions will return for "Windfall Classifieds Incorporated" night at the speedway. On this special night sponsored by the area classified newspaper, top notch auto racing will come together with great family entertainment and fun. Numerous prizes will be given away throughout the evening by the Windfall staff.
Three lucky fans will be rewarded for showing the most "fan spirit" during the night of racing in way of a colorful sign supporting their driver, decorative apparel, face paint or perhaps just by making the most supporting noise when their favorite driver is announced in the line up. Various gift certificates from area businesses will be among the prizes and the winners will also have their picture published in an upcoming edition of the publication.
While Placerville Speedway is known for its enthusiastic fans and fun activity in the grandstands each week, the action on the track is sure to heat up as well. Saturday marks the beginning of a competitive stretch of racing at Placerville as racing returns for Wild Winged Wednesday on June 30th and then once again on Sunday July 4th.
Entering Saturday's night of action, Mr. Excitement Andy Forsberg of Auburn continues to lead the point standings in the winged sprint car division. Although he has yet to capture that elusive first win of the season here, Forsberg holds a 25-point lead over Placerville's Scott Russell. Mike Henry is third in the ranks followed by C.J. Humphreys of Placerville, Justin Johnson of Shingle Springs, Shane Golobic of Fremont and Placerville's Jimmy Trulli. Trulli is the only driver in the top seven positions with a feature victory to his name as Placerville Speedway continues to be one of the toughest tracks in the region to master, even for the best drivers in the sport.
In the Dirt Solutions Limited Late Models, 2008 Pro Stock Champion Dan Brown Jr. of Grass Valley continues to rule the roost. The second generation driver is a now a two time winner and sits 14-points ahead of Cameron Park racer Jay Norton. Norton was the 2009 Rookie of the Year and has had a strong season thus far, leading his share of laps. Doug Grandboise of Jackson is third in standings over Auburn's Thomas Arobogast and Matt Davis.
In the Pure Stock division, Placerville's Chris Curtiss continues to lead the point standings. Curtiss has a planned absence in the coming weeks and hopes to stretch his point lead significantly in the events to come. Currently the one time winner sits ahead of El Dorado's Dennis Armstrong by 12-points and Danielle Clauson of Placerville by 17-digits. All three drivers in the top five are feature winners this season. Rick Grunert of Woodland and Eddie Gardner of Sacramento round out the top five.
The three track regulars are being joined Saturday night by the colorful coupes of the Nor Cal Dwarf Cars. In this division look for the familiar faces of Daniel and Patrick Weger along with Kevin Bender, Mike "Spanky" Grenert, Ryan Winter, Doug Martin and many more. The Nor Cal Dwarf cars are always an exciting division when they take to the clay at Placerville Speedway. Don't miss them Saturday night.
Action will begin on Saturday night at 5:30 with warm ups followed by qualifying at 6:30. The front gates at Placerville Speedway will open at 5 p.m. and tickets will go on sale at that time. Adults are $12, juniors and seniors $10, children are $5 and five and under are free. All seats at Placerville Speedway are general admission and first come first serve so an early arrival to the speedway is always suggested.
