Bryan Hulbert – OCALA, Fla. (February 14, 2018) Taking in the Florida sun with five nights of racing at Ocala’s Bubba Raceway Park over the past couple weeks, Oklahoma’s Wayne Johnson has spent most of his time at the egg-shaped oval testing new setups and tire combinations.

Starting with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 and the three-night Bubba Army Winter Nationals, the opening three days of the month saw two A-Feature appearances with a best finish of sixth on Friday, February 1.

“We’re trying to figure out these ‘H’ tires. We ran 19th to sixth that first night, but it wasn’t pretty. There were a lot of crashes we had to miss, but it worked out,” commented Johnson. “After that, we tried too much stuff and just wasn’t on our game, but that’s why we’re here is to test.”

Missing the show the second night, Wayne made the cut again on night three but pulled off early. Swapping the 410cid engine for his ASCS style power plant, Wayne returned to Ocala for the two-night USCS event on Friday, February 9 and Saturday, February 10 to again use the weekend to test and tune on the Outlaw Wings No. 2c,

On the overall weekend, Wayne stated, “We figured out a lot of things for when we do run the ‘H’ again, but this weekend we’ll be back on our normal ASCS tire program at East Bay Raceway Park.” One of Wayne’s favorite facilities, having won the King of the 360’s and Ronald Laney Memorial twice, Johnson is excited to return to the one-third mile oval.

“I love coming to this race because it is the Ronald Laney Memorial and Ronald was a friend of mine. Having won it twice, to win a third would be awesome, but East Bay is unlike anywhere else we go. Down here in the sand, it’s really hard to get a hold of so if you get your car where it can get a hold of it, you can go to any slick track in the country and be fast with those notes.”

The Ronald Laney Memorial and King of the 360’s takes place February 15-17, 2018 and can be watched live on https://www.floracing.com. Racing beyond this weekend leading up to the 2018 season opener for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at the Devil's Bowl Speedway on March 16 and 17 will be determined on location and conditions.
