Helms Heading to Florida for All Star Events at Bubba Raceway Park and Volusia Speedway Park

Inside Line Promotions – FINDLAY, Ohio (Jan. 30, 2018) – Caleb Helms knows the importance of qualifying as he invades Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., this Thursday through Saturday for the Bubba Army Winter Nationals with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

The tripleheader will open his season and it’s at a unique track that takes time to master.

“Bubba Raceway Park is egg-shaped and can be really tricky,” he said. “I think it’s one of the those tracks that just takes lots of laps to lead to success of winning races and earning podium finishes. We’ve had some good runs there, but in all honesty if we expect to compete for wins or podiums this weekend we’ll need to be on our ‘A’ game in qualifying.”

Helms raced at the track three times last season and his best result of 15th came the night he qualified in the top 10. That led to a heat race win and a spot in the dash, which started him in the front half of the field for the A Main.

“We didn’t come home with the best results at Bubba Raceway Park last year, but I really feel confident returning there this year based on what we learned,” he said. “I’m excited for the challenge this weekend and to see how we progress.

“I think we will start the season off strong because this is the first winter our crew chief Andy Potter has been with the team. Winter preparation is key. Andy came on board early last year, but we didn’t have him the previous winter. Now with a full year under our belt together I think we can really take off.”

His best result at the track was a ninth-place finish in 2014.

Helms will also compete in Florida the following week – Feb. 7-11 – during the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville. The first two nights are All Star events and the final three nights are sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“The DIRTcar Nationals is a fun event because you have five straight nights of racing at the same track,” he said. “You can learn a lot when you race at the same track multiple days in a row. I always feel like racing down there to start the season is an advantage before the season begins in Ohio, Pennsylvania and the East, where we race most of the time.”

Helms posted his career-best DIRTcar Nationals result of 13th last year.
