Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 16, 2018) – Zane Hendricks was hit with triple bad luck during his Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals heat race before a mechanical problem ended his weekend early during the 32nd edition of the marquee midget event last week.

Hendricks drew a high pill draw last Friday to start at the back of a heat race that was stacked with top-notch talent. To top it off it was an early heat race on a heavy track, which made passing difficult inside the River Spirit Expo Center.

“Practice day went really well on Monday and we felt good going into our prelim night,” he said. “But we drew a tough heat and the track was so heavy. It’s one of those things that if you don’t do well in your heat it’s tough to overcome.”

Hendricks started behind a pair of midget aces, including one who earned a podium that night, as well as World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion Daryn Pittman and Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competitor Blake Hahn.

“It would be tough to pass many cars starting behind those guys any night, but the track wasn’t conducive for passing so we took what we could get,” he said.

Hendricks gained a position to finish sixth, which relegated him to the eighth starting position in a C Main.

“I was up to second and was running third or fourth when I lost oil pressure,” he said. “The top four or five cars were right together in a pack for the transfer positions. I had to shut the engine down once I lost oil pressure and that was it for us.”

The DNF ended the night and weekend early for Hendricks, who is looking on the bright side following the frustrating night.

“It was disappointing to say the least, but it was just unfortunate circumstances,” he said. “We didn’t get to race a lot, but when we were on the track and it wasn’t locked down we were good. As far as the results go it wasn’t better than last year, but we were a lot faster and more comfortable.”
