Taylor Filled With Confidence Following Chili Bowl Nationals Practice

Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 9, 2018) – Zac Taylor is carrying a ton of confidence into the 32nd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals this week inside the River Spirit Expo Center.

In past years Taylor leased a midget ride, but this year he teamed up with Todd Henry, who Taylor has driven for the past two seasons, to bring a familiar machine to the event. The team practiced on Monday and will participate in a preliminary night on Wednesday prior to Saturday’s finale.

“I can say after practice Monday this is one of the best years out here for me,” Taylor said. “I’m real comfortable in the car. I’ve got Todd and my dad and the whole crew I’m used to working with. I’m very excited about our chances.”

The Chili Bowl has more than 350 entries this year with teams being split into four nights of competition, which means Taylor will battle with approximately 90 other drivers on Wednesday.

“Every night there are a ton of talented, experienced drivers competing,” he said. “It’s a fine line between driving too aggressive and not aggressive enough. I plan to watch Tuesday and see what other drivers are doing and hopefully pick up on some things that will help me Wednesday.”

Taylor said the Henry Motorsports machine was fast right out of the trailer on Monday.

“We tightened the car up after the first practice and it helped me get around the bottom,” he said. “I was also able to run through the middle and get off the turns better. Todd was happy about that because that’s the worst part of the track and I was good there.”

After the Chili Bowl, Taylor, who is coming off a year that saw him claim three championships in 305ci sprint car racing, plans to move into 360ci winged sprint cars along with some pavement modified racing as well as piloting Henry’s midget.
