Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Jan. 8, 2018) – Derek Hagar and the Hagar-Proctor Racing team will be invading the River Spirit Expo Center this week during the 32nd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.
It will mark Hagar’s fourth time competing at the marquee event in Tulsa, Okla.
“It’s a good, fun week, but it’s a long week,” he said. “We’ll go out there and try to do the best we can. There’s 350 entries so you have to have luck on your side. It’s one of those deals where it’s luck of the draw, luck of the heat race and you have to pass cars every time you hit the track.”
Hagar returned to the event last year for the first time since 2009. Mechanical problems hampered him throughout the event as he endured a DNF during the preliminary night B Main before capping the weekend in a G Main during the finale.
This year he enters the event with his team, which competed last month in Illinois with mixed results.
“Hopefully we got some bugs worked out,” he said. “We had a break issue. On a positive note the motor ran fine. We just need to stay on top of everything and make every time we hit the track count.”
Hagar said his focus is to reach new heights.
“My goal is to make the A Main on the preliminary night and Saturday night,” he said. “It’s a tough task, but that’d be a big accomplishment for our team.”
