[bPENNGROVE, CA (6-7-10)] – Alissa Geving and her Chicko Motorsports Sprint Car Team are highway bound as the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series begins 'Western Speedweek, the Road to the Dirt Cup" this Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.
"I'm really excited about racing in Western Speedweek," said Geving. "It's going to take me to tracks I have never raced on before with some of the best competitors from his area and up north. This will be a really good opportunity for us to do well in the series point standings with so many events in so few days."
Western Speedweek begins on Friday night in familiar territory for Geving, the quarter-mile Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. From there the series will then head to the Pacific Northwest for three additional events prior to the annual Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. Without the needed sponsorship to compete in the Dirt Cup event, Geving will run all of the Golden State Challenge point races on the tour before she returns home for a special race at Petaluma Speedway on June 19th.
Following Silver Dollar Speedway, Geving will head to Medford, Oregon where she will compete at the Southern Oregon Speedway on Saturday, June 12. The team will then continue to Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon on Monday, June 14 and wrap up their journey on Tuesday, June 15 at Wilamette Speedway in Lebanon.
"It's going to take a lot of work and a lot of focus by the entire team and myself," said Geving. "But we are ready for the task. We're sitting strong in the top ten point standings of this series and racing with the best of the best. I'm ready for the challenge of some new tracks."
Last Saturday night, Geving competed at Placerville Speedway in Golden State Challenge competition. In qualifying she turned a 10:717 lap on the challenging bullring track. When drivers Andy Forsberg and Jonathan Allard went out and bested the field with times in the rare nine second bracket, the entire field shuffled and Geving scored the 17th position overall.
In heat race competition Geving drove from fifth to sixth place which placed her 16th in feature race. Despite a set back when she was collected by another drove rolled over in the 30-lap A-feature, Geving ended her night just out of the top ten with an 11th place finish.
"I wasn't sure how good we were going to be when the front wing got torn off in the accident, there was nothing I could do to avoid it. I was committed to the high side when he went upside down right in front of me," she added. "But the car did ok. I use to really struggle at that place but I've really gotten to like running there this year and we've done pretty well."
Following her sting in the Western Speedweek, Geving will return to the likes of Petaluma Speedway on Saturday, June 19th. She will compete in wingless competition as the United States Auto Club (USAC) Series returns to the track where she has claimed two winged sprint car championships.
