Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 7, 2010) – There will be some wild Sprint Car racing action in North Texas this coming weekend as the American Sprint Cars Series Lone Star Region takes to a pair of ¼-mile bullrings on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday night, the ASCS Lone Star Region makes its lone stop of the season at Boyd Raceway in Boyd, TX. Then, on Saturday night, it’s on to the high banks of Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, TX.
While Friday’s card marks the lone Boyd stop of the year, Saturday will be the first Cowtown card of the year after the event scheduled for April 17 was rained out.
With the initial three events of the year in the books, ASCS Gulf South regular Bean Elliott of Alvin, TX, is atop the ASCS Lone Star point charts by an eight-point margin over Keller, TX, shoe Eric Baldaccini, who topped last year’s Lone Star event at Boyd Raceway.
Justin Melton of Flower Mound, TX, is just 20 points out of the lead in third, with Brandon Corn of Gause, TX, and Claud Estes of Godley, TX, tied for fourth another four points back.
The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Lone Star points entering this weekend’s double includes Preston Peebles II (Lubbock), John Ricketts (Burleson), Justin Spoerl (Mesquite), Chris Coker (Greenville) and defending Lone Star champion Kevin Ramey (Fort Worth).
Friday’s racing action at Boyd Raceway goes green at 8:00 p.m., with Saturday’s card at Cowtown Speedway firing off at 7:00 p.m.
