[b CHICO, CA (9-9-10)]– Anyone who knows of the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions is well aware that the event more then just the greatest little sprint car race in the world. In addition to the incredible open wheel racing that culminates with the best drivers in the world competing for a $50,000 payday this four day affair in Chico, California is not just an incredible event, it's an experience.
The action on the track will bring four different open wheel venues to the high banked quarter-mile in 2010. Along with the "on the edge of your seats" action comes a great deal of entertainment and activities taking place before and after the races during the week.
Topping the entertainment venue this year will be a new addition to the this annual fall classic that draws thousands of race fans from all parts of the county. On Thursday night Handy Racing Promotions is proud to present the first Gold Cup After Hours event of the week with a live concert in the Silver Dollar Pavilion featuring the well known band "Double Funk Crunch."
Double Funk Crunch is a versatile nine piece party band that has dazzled audiences for over a decade with non-stop dance hits, choreography, audience interaction and boundless energy. Originally established as a 70's disco band in the San Francisco Bay Area, DFC burst onto the scene in 1997 as one of the most dynamic and popular bands of their kind.
Double Funk Crunch's reputation and demand have skyrocketed over the years. They have performed in all of the major venues in Northern California as well as performances across the country and around the world. A few of their past clients include such intities as Yahoo, Google, Cisco Systems, Cach Creek Casino, the San Francisco Giants, the Oakland A's and President Barack Obama. Now, add the famous Gold Cup Race of Champions to the long list of Double Funk Crunch's venues.
In addition to the live music by one of the regions' top bands, the Thursday night opener will feature highlights of Gold Cup's of the past on the big screens in the pavilion as well as $2 tacos and $3 beer. This is a great way to kick off the Gold Cup Race of Champions with an event that fun for the entire family. Admission will be free to all campers at the Gold Cup, race teams and Thursday night ticket holders. Double Funk Crunch has a strong following in Northern California and the event is also open to the public for a $10 cover charge with the doors opening at approximately 10 p.m.
On Friday night, the famed Joe Hunt Magnetos Chili Feed and Miss Gold Cup Bikini Contest will draw thousands of race fans to the pavilion the second night of preliminary action on the race track. This annual affair has been one of the most popular after race events on the World of Outlaws tour for decades and culminated with the crowning of the Miss Gold Cup 2010.
The event will feature all you can eat Chili, Salad and Corn Bread prepared by Silver Dollar Speedway's culinary gurus using product furnished by the Danielson Company. In addition to the great food and the sights and delights of the Miss Gold Cup Bikini Contest the duel big screens will be displaying a good share of race highlights from Gold Cup events of the past.
The winner of the 2010 Miss Gold Cup will take home a $1000 prize this year and area residents are urged to submit their entries.
