Friday night at the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway, things did not go the way STM and Scotty Thiel had anticipated it. After a extremely dusty track in hotlaps, Scotty never really got a chance to get a good feel for the car or even run it hard. After picking a 1 pill, Thiel started on the pole of the heat race. After taking the green, Scotty noticed the car wasn't very fast and fell back to second. Just then, Scotty looked down at the gauges and saw that there was NO oil pressure and the oil light came on. Scotty pulled off the track and later on discovered that the oil pump broke inside the motor. The night was over the STM team.
After replacing the broken oil pump with the new one, Scotty and the team went to work and prepared the car for Saturday nights action at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds. Scotty drew a 15 pill which set him inside second row. The track was very heavy and tacky. Scotty drove the car well but didnt have any power because he put the wrong gear ratio in which cause the car to lack rpm. After a 6th place heat finish, Scotty would have to run the B-main and start in the 7th position. After taking the green, Thiel quickly passed a few cars and moved into the 3rd position and stayed there the entire race. That finish transfered Scotty the A-main event and in the 19th starting spot. The track became very dry slick and had a decent bottom groove and a very limited top groove. Thiel knew that he had to do something in order to move forward and decided to move to the top groove and drive hard. Scotty quickly was moving forward, passing a few cars every lap. A few cautions later, Scotty was sitting in the 12th position and was there for the rest of the race. The track dried out even more and the top groove went away which ultimately stopped anymore passing.
Scotty and the entire STM crew were very please with the performance, considering what they had to go through in order to race that night. STM would like to thank all of the sponsors on the #64 Sprint car: Complete Water Inc, Scott Thiel Builders, Advanced Compressor Technology, Todd Walber Construction, Rhey Graphics Haven Bar & Grill, Kaemmer Foods, Moyle Racing, DWT RAcing, Tri-Flow Lubricants, and Muehlberg's Fire Solutions. Also thanks to Jeff and Todd for their help every week.
