Another Solid Weekend For Covington At Jetmore

Another Solid Weekend For Covington At Jetmore

Matt Covington and the Covington Motorsports Team had a very solid run over the past weekend at Jetmore, Ks. for the TBJ Promotions ASCS National Steve King Memorial. On the minds and hearts of everyone was the family and friends of fellow racer Jesse Hockett who passed away last week.

Matt was able to draw middle of the road pill to start off the weekend on Saturday night. This would put Matt outside row two for the heat. Matt would fight hard to bring his Wesmar powered, Maxim home 2nd in his heat. The 2nd place finish would give Matt the 11th starting position for the feature. As the green flag fell Matt would have to fight hard for every inch and position on the locked down, wide open race track. Matt would work hard among the series best and come home with a solid 10th place finish.

With a solid top-ten in the books the Covington Motorsports team would regroup and hope for another strong showing on Sunday night. The draw would be a little kinder to Matt on Sunday night as he would draw a low pill and start outside front row for the heat. Matt would take advantage of his starting spot and lead green to checker to take the heat race win. This would give Matt a row 6 starting spot for the feature. With a race car that was a little on the tight side and a fast field of cars Matt would work hard to maintain his starting position and ultimately come home in 13th.

The finish was not what Matt and the Covington Motorsports team was wanting but all in all considering a 10th and 13th place finish among some of the best open wheel sprint car drivers, Matt would come away content and maintain a solid 8th place in the ASCS National points. The solid weekend would also help Matt stay a mere 17 points behind and close second in the ASCS National Brodix Rookie of the Year Standings.

Up next on the ASCS schedule is the National race at Little Rock I-30 Speedway. Hopefully Matt and the Covington Motorsports Team can continue the streak of solid A-Main National starts.
